why I don’t really care about what Donald Sterling said about black people

If you a) live in Los Angeles, b) give two craps about sports, or c) know a black person, then you’ve heard about the recent ludicrous *alleged* commentary by Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling in which he chastises his ex-girlfriend (who *allegedly* has a bigger penis than Donald) for bringing a black person to a game with her and publicly flaunting her association with them.  He goes on to explain how it’s totally fine that she has sex with them, etc. etc. just as long as it stays, pun intended, in the dark.

There is obvious outrage and disgust engendered by those remarks.  How can anyone say something so blatantly racist and stupid and get away with it?  How can a man so blatantly racist and stupid own an NBA franchise? Why does Donald Sterling insist on ruining the Clippers even when they are actually good for a change?

Y'all didn't suspect this genius was a racist when old cheap ass was trying to celebrate Black History Month in the wrong month??

I, for my part, am not disgusted by what he said.  I am not even all that outraged by the sentiment.  I am outraged that we pretend like this is something new from this man.  I’m disgusted that we’ve all seemingly forgotten all of this, where our boy Donny became the face of racist slumlord scumbag America.  Not wanting black people in his buildings is not a new affliction for DS. But it’s like the man stumbled into drafting Blake Griffin and suckered the league into allowing Chris Paul to come and all of his history is forgotten.  Ask former Clipper GM Elgin Baylor what he thought about the “plantation mentality” with which Sterling ran the team and I bet you’ll find that he isn’t surprised about the tape either.

I am especially outraged at this, though.  When I read that the NAACP was even considering giving this buffoon a lifetime achievement award I was honestly more mad at them for their lunacy than at him for being able to fool them.  I’m trying to think of people less deserving of an award from the NAACP and I’m drawing a blank.  Maybe James Earl Ray….  Seriously, when I read the headline I assumed it was from the Onion, and maybe it still is.  We aren’t that far from April Fool’s Day.

Here’s a newsflash: people don’t make the kind of statements that were made on that tape from an overnight epiphany.  Stop acting like this is brand new.  The truth is most of us don’t care because we’re either too lazy to get the facts or only interested in the product on the floor.  I fall mostly in that latter category.  I’ve been a Clipper fan all my life and I will continue to support them despite their idiotic owner. I’m not going to switch allegiance because he showed his asscrack a little more than normal.  I’ve accepted his stupidity and support the men earning their paycheck, although I spend virtually no money supporting the man who signs it.

The main reason I don’t really care about what Donald Sterling said is because it doesn’t surprise me.  I expect attitudes like this from most uptight, rich, old white guys.  If you were an adult in a time when blacks weren’t really legally people yet in America, you’re already a little suspect to me.  That’s the burden of our racist past.  And, quite

Oh and by the way, this is the black guy DS didn't want in the damn building. I wonder if he knows there's a statue of him outside....

frankly, it’s the subtext of our racist present because a lot of the people that act as decision makers for our country both politically and corporately fit this exact demographic.  The only difference between Sterling and a lot of old racist pigs is that one owns a team full of black people and is too dumb to not get recorded being an asshole.

I hope the Clippers win the NBA championship and then as a group refuse to play for Donald Sterling and he is forced to sell the team.  I hope that since we live in the era of reality TV, he will then be forced to live in a house full of dirty black people that smell and lazy Mexicans who sit around the house drinking and smoking all day since that is what he thinks that they do.

Of course, if after the investigation it is discovered that it is not Mr. Sterling’s voice on that tape or it has been somehow doctored (along with all the other evidence in the last 15 years of his disregard for people of color), then I hope he will accept my apology.  Being black has made me prone to jumping to conclusions and not being able to read.  Right Donny?
